I, offcially announced that I passed my kitchen practical class today. HURRAY !!!
Today was my second day of last week in term 1, which was also my kitchen practical assessment day. We all were so nervous (until fatiha also forgot to bring her knife set into the kitchen =.=) In the past 11 weeks, we enjoy a lot when having this class with our chef--Simone. She is a lovely, funny and experienced chef and we all like her^^
But with the way she just stand there and observe what we are doing during the whole assessment is really really SCARY. We were given half and hour to take our ingredients ready & 3 and 1/2 hours to present all our dishes. That was also included when you stuffs up anything in between which like i did to my pastry, its burnt T_T.
I started my assessment by rolling the pastry first. After putting it in a some sort of star shape tray which we suppose to use, i left it in the oven and off to poach my egg. When i was about to finish plating my egg for Simone to check, i realised that my pastry was still in the oven.
Shit! I know for sure it's already burnt, so i take it out quickly and say bye bye to it (although it not very black but it still not nice for presentation, T_T). I re-do the new one with extra careful immediately. Process of making the meringue was really tiring. Especially my first trial was just a piece of rubbish. Beating my egg white until my hand gone paining but it didnt seems to work fluffly as it should. So and AGAIN, i say bye bye to it. Back to the coolroom and bring out another 2 eggs. This time it works^^ Beat up my meringue (although my hand feel like dropping out) nicely and squeeze it on my beautiful meringue tart. yummy~~~
Later that, mayonnaise making, pecision cuts and BLT sandwich was kinda smooth .. although the pecision cuts were taking like half and hour. We were not allowed to use ruler and cut carrots into 3 different measurements :
1. 3mm x 3mm x 40mm
2. 8mm x 8mm x 8mm(cube)
3. 4mm x 4mm x 20mm / 4mm x 4mm x 40mm
My god, without a ruler was like you are not able to cut it at all. But i was smart, hehe^^ i measured the lengths on my hand at home before, so i know how long should i cut. And for the results, Simone said mine was PERFECT !!! wahahahaha=)
Then came up the BLT. well it was ok actually, everything went well except that i cutted it in square shape instead of triangle like everyone does which seems like a bit odd. but anyway it was still a sandwich^^. Finishing my BLT as last dish to present, off we all for break and free from Simone staring at us like previous 3 and 1/2 hours. it was kinda scary and really STRESS.
After the break was cleaning up and oral questioning. I was the first. Let me tell you, i was SO SO SO nervous. Simone gave me feedback on the dishes presented just now and ask a few questions of this subject. Luckily, I PASSED^^
Return to cleaning up and we finished quite early today. So i ran upstairs to grab my phone and snap a few pictures of the kitchen (p/s: phones are not allowed in kitchen but since this is last day, Simone said yes^^)

This was the last cooking class with Simone.We will be having her in kitchen studies class in term 2, so we still meet^^ I had Jason for next term cooking class, i wonder who is he/she???
